MARKET BASKET IS COMING TO WESTBROOK

Opening Fall 2018.

Westbrook, ME-

Westbrook City planner, Jennie Franceschi, confirmed that a Market Basket Supermarket is joining Waterstone Properties Group’s newest development, a 500,000 + square foot development located at 80 Main Street in Westbrook, ME.

The approximately 100 acre site is near the intersection of Main Street and Larrabee Road, between two Maine Turnpike exits and on the Portland-Westbrook border.

Market Basket will be part of a 500,000 + square foot development that the Westbrook Planning Board approved in October 2016.  It was originally to be anchored by a WalMart. However, Waterstone recently purchased the property this past month and Market Basket is now underway here as the anchor to the development.

Construction has already begun onsite and traffic improvements are underway for the 80,000 square foot Market Basket and the supermarket will open its doors to the public in the Fall 2018 or early 2019. A company spokesman said the store will employ 400 people and that Market Basket is thrilled to come to the greater Portland area.  The grocery store will offer customers a wide variety of products including specialty, organic, international and prepared foods as well as its wide selection of grocery items, all at a great value to its customers. There will be a comfortable dining area with flat screen TV’s and free WIFI and an in-store café serving coffees, lattes, self-service ice cream, milkshakes and more.

Anton Melchionda, Waterstone principal, stated that “Market Basket is an outstanding company that provides excellent value, selection and service to its customers and the community. We really look forward to continuing to work with City representatives and the community, who have been very supportive in helping to meet the needs and wants of local residents and the surrounding areas.”

Westbrook City Manager, Jerre Bryant, told Channel 8 TV New that project is exciting for the city because it will have a positive effect on development and other activities. “It’s right on the gateway from Portland to Westbrook and right on the Maine Turnpike [I-95]. We’re excited about the total development, we are excited about this very significant site….it is a very key location…and this will transition [the site] very very quickly. It is a very positive attraction to Westbrook and to this location and when you start attracting a lot of people, good things happen.”

Waterstone has developed a number of successful projects with Market Basket, including Brickyard Square and The RIDGE Marketplace in Epping and Rochester, NH respectively and West Bridgewater, Mass. Waterstone is the 2nd largest retail developer in New England.
