Westbrook Environmental Improvement Corporation (WEIC) was created as a result of a change in state regulations and the Natural Resource Protection Act seeking to preserve wetlands. WEIC was formed as a quasi-municipal entity to assist in the mitigation of wetlands following the partial construction of a commercial/industrial park. WEIC supported the developer by providing on-site wetland restoration and created wetland compensation mitigation credits for the successful expansion of the Portland Jetport.
